  1. FTaskman 1.20 - Taskmanager-Replacement for Windows 3.1

  6. This is version 1.20 of FTaskman.
  7.  
  8. FTaskman is a replacement for the taskmanager of Windows 3.1
  9.  
  10.  
  11. FTaskman has the following additional functions to the normal taskmanager
  12.  
  13. - display the icons of all tasks (switchable)
  14. - multiselection -> e.g. end several tasks
  15. - show also invisible tasks (switchable)
  16. - minimize other tasks when 'Switch to'
  17. - new commands:
  18.   + minimize selected tasks
  19.   + minimize all tasks with the exception of the selected
  20.   + minimize all tasks
  21.   + start applications
  22.   + terminate tasks abruptly
  23.   + set tasks invisible or visible
  24.   + set tasks stay on top or delete stay on top
  25.   + tile windows horizontally or vertically
  26.   + arrange only selected windows
  27.  
  28. There is an english and a german version of FTaskman.
  29. For the german version please read FTASKMAN.TXG.

  32. Installation of FTaskman:
  33. =========================
  34.  
  35. - To use the german version of FTaskman you have to rename FTASKMAN.EXG
  36.   in FTASKMAN.EXE.
  37. - Copy FTASKMAN.EXE in your windows directory (or any directory you want)
  38. - Add the following line to the section [Boot] of the file SYSTEM.INI:
  39.  
  40.    TASKMAN.EXE=C:\WINDOWS\FTASKMAN.EXE
  41.   
  42.    (If you don't have copied FTASKMAN.EXE in the directory C:\WINDOWS
  43.     change this path to the name of the directory in which you have copied
  44.     FTASKMAN.EXE!)
  45. - If you want to use the library CTL3D.DLL (see below), you have to copy the
  46.   file CTL3D.DLL into the directory Windows\System.
  47.   But don't override a newer version of CTL3D.DLL.

  50. Commands of FTaskman
  51. ====================

  53. - Switch to: 
  54.     show selected tasks and activate the first of the seleted
  55. - End Task(s)
  56.     end selected tasks
  57. - Cancel
  58.     close taskman without doing anything
  59. - Minimize task(s)
  60.     minimize selected tasks
  61. - Minimize others
  62.     minimize all tasks with the exception of the selected
  63. - Minimize all
  64.     minimize all tasks
  65. - Cascade
  66.     cascade all mainwindows
  67. - Tile vertical
  68.     tile mainwindows vertical
  69. - Tile horizontal
  70.     tile mainwindows horizontal
  71. - Show invisible
  72.     show invisible tasks
  73. - Arrange only selected tasks
  74.     if you select one of the three arrange functions 'Cascade', 'Tile vertical'
  75.     or 'Tile horizontal' only the selected tasks will be arranged.
  76.     This option has no meaning to the function 'Arrange icons'.

  91.     ATTENTION: Use this command only if you can't close the task(s) with
  92.                the 'End task' command!

  94.     show a dialog from where an application could be started.
  95.     If you press the right mouse button in the edit field 'Command'
  96.     you will see a list of the last used commands (if the history is enabled -
  97.     see below) and you can select one of them.
  98.     You can't specify parameters for the application!

  102.     show version number and copyright information

  104. Options dialog:
  105.  
  106. - Show icons in tasklist
  107. - Default: show invisible
  108. - Default: show full dialog
  109. - Default: Arrange only selected tasks
  110. - Minimize other tasks when 'Switch to'
  111.     If you switch to one or more tasks with 'Switch to', all other tasks 
  112.     will be minimized
  113. - Close only after 'Switch to' and 'End Task'
  114.     FTaskman will only close if you select 'Switch to', 'End Task' or 'Cancel'.
  115.     With this option you can do some functions of FTaskman without starting
  116.     FTaskman again after each operation.
  117. - Save position on exit
  118.     The position of FTaskman will be saved so the next time FTaskman will
  119.     start at the same position
  120. - Use pattern in dialog
  121.     With this checkbox you can enable or disable the gray pattern around the
  122.     dialogs.
  123. - Number of commands in the history list of the 'Run' dialog
  124.     If you press the right mouse button in the 'Command' edit field of the
  125.     'Run' dialog you will see a history of previous used commands. The length
  126.     of the history is controlled by the value of this filed. You can enter
  127.     a value between 0 and 20. If you enter 0 the history function is disabled.
  128. - Sort tasks
  129.     Lets you choose if the tasklist will not be sorted, sorted alphabetically
  130.     or will be sorted reverse alphabetically.
  131. - Place invisible tasks
  132.     You can place invisible tasks at the top or at the bottom of the tasklist
  133. - Number of lines in task list
  134.     The value of the two edits will control the number of lines you will see
  135.     in the task list. You can enter a value between 1 and 30 for the listbox
  136.     with icons and the listbox without icons. 
  137.     Note: The number of lines of tasks is adjusted to the maximal size of
  138.     your screen so the dialog can't get bigger as your screen.

  140. You can also access most of the commands and options with a popup menu, 
  141. if you press the right mouse button in the task listbox.

  144. Invisible tasks will be marked with a 'ñ'.
  145.  
  146. The tasklist will not show tasks which have no title, because the standard
  147. taskmanager also don't show them and there are a lot of untiteled windows 
  148. which your system uses for internal things.

  151. FTaskman will use the CTL3D library from Microsoft to let the dialog controls
  152. look 3 dimensional. If you don't like this look add
  153.  
  154. UseCtl3d=0
  155.  
  156. to the section [FTaskMan] in WIN.INI.

  163. You can use and distribute FTaskman free, as long as the following files are 
  164. not changed and you distribute all files together

  171. I am programming FTaskman because I have fun and not to make any profit. 
  172. That's why FTaskman is free and you don't have to pay more or less high 
  173. registration charges. I think it is a bad habit, that more and more program 
  174. authors want to have money even for the smallest programs.
